Kitty Rock Belly Full – bio-burger from heaven
Finally, our first critique. Therefore we chose a real speciality: The Kitty Rock Belly Full, that you can find in the Gutenbergstrasse 66 in Kiel. What we can say right away is that our visit was a real delight. To find out what else happened in that bio-burger.bar read on:
1. Location
The owner of the place, Kirsten, is welcoming us herself and leads us to our place – a nice dark wooden table in the corner. We realise immediately: There’s been put a lot of heart and soul in this place. But not just in the food, it’s in the details as well. Everything is made of warm and elegant colors, with a lot of interesting decoration, which fits perfectly. There are little flowers and signs and to our surprise even real candles on the table – a real candlelight dinner!
2. Service
Since a candlelight dinner without food doesn’t quite do the trick, a few minutes later Kirsten shows up at our table to take our orders. Kirsten and the other waiters and waitresses are in such a good mood that nothings seems to be able to ruin their day. Kirsten takes our special requests naturally and without blinking – so make all the special requests you want!
3. The drinks
Kitty Rock Belly Full is offering a wide range of drinks. Apart from standard drinks such as coke, water, wine and other liquors they also offer special biological drinks such as lemonade, juices, spritzers and regional beer. Long story short: There’s really something for every taste.
4. The food
Now let’s get to the most important part: the food! Kitty Rock Belly Full is so interesting and special because there is something to eat for everyone, not only “meateaters” but vegetarians and vegans as well. And in this case, we don’t mean just salads and herbs! The variety of burger is just awesome, which makes it hard to choose one.
Finally Stefan chooses a real classic, the “Kitty Cheese”. Esther decides to get a vegan “Mush Mosh” with many mushrooms (yummy).
As a side dish we are ordering sweet potato fries, which is a nice change compared to regular fries and which is something we’ve never tried before. The Kitty Rock offers a variety of vegan and non-vegan dips and sauces, from which we choose four: a cheese dip, a special Kitty sauce, a vegan peanut dip and vegan mayonnaise.
For dessert there’s only one offer: Vegan Panna Cotta. The dessert in this restaurant is always vegan, which means the meateaters have to sacrifice themselves if they want something sweet to finish with. But it’s worth it because the dessert is always made of regional ingredients. The dessert is not mentioned in the menu as it changes from time to time, so if you want some, just ask the waitress or waiter.
If you want a burger with meat on it, you get to choose between:
Kitty Cheese
BBQ Burger
Chili Cheese
Drei-Käse-Hoch
(triple-cheese)
Kitty Bacon
Boah is’ mir heiß
(kinda like “man it’s hot”)
The “Kitty Cheese” burger that I chose is just gigantic! Plus, it tastes very natural and nothing like a cheap Mc D’s burger. You can taste every ingredient from this fantastic burger. Apart from the sweet potato frie, there is no side salad or anything, but it’s not necessary either because after I finished the burger, I am as full as I could be.The sweet potato fries taste a lot different from regular fries, which is a little unusual for me. They taste crispy and very sweet – as the name says – for me a bit too sweet. The dips however surprise me.
The cheese dip has a nice smoky flavour and taste like melted cheese. A dream come true for every chees lover like me” The Kitty sauce tastes a bit nutty while the peanut dip taste a lot nutty (who would have guessed!). The vegan mayonnaise is a little tasteless in my opinion. Overall they make a good fit with the fries though.
Although I’m super full, I’m interested: What does vegan Panna Cotta taste like? Surprisingly good! The dessert consists of something that looks like strawberry jam, desiccated coconut and a nice white yoghurt cream. It tastes amazing, very natural and sweet, but not too sweet.
The vegan offer is various and I think every vegan and vegetarian will love this place. You get to choose between:
Basic Baby
Avocado Burger
Mush Mosh (mushrooms)
Falafel Burger
Antipasti Burger
Although all of those sound delicious, I choose the vegan “Mush Mosh”, just because I love mushrooms. And as soon as I take the first bite, I know it was the right choice. Man, that burger tastes incredible! Very natural and fresh, a real contrast to the fast food variation. It combines a tasty vegan burger-patty with a smooth Aioli sauce, which I ordered instead of vegan mayo, fresh salad and delicious mushrooms. Everything a vegan stomach could ask for!Unlike Stefan I must say that I love the sweet potato fries. They are crispy and sweet and perfect in addition to the sauces. Of course sweet potato is a matter of taste since they have a very special and succinct taste. But for everyone who doesn’t like them, there’s always regular fires on the menu.
The vegan peanut dip is perfect for the sweet potato fries and a refreshing alternative to regular dips and sauces. The vegan mayo is creamy but a little tasteless, as Stefan already mentioned. For me personally there could have been more “mayo”-taste but for everyone who likes a mild, natural dip, this will do.
Finally it’s dessert time! The vegan Panna Cotta has a nice sweetness due to the strawberry jam and a summer taste of coconut. As with all the dishes at the restaurant, you can taste the quality of the ingredients right away. The dessert has a lightness that doesn’t give you stomach pain even when you’re already full.
5. Nice-To-Know
The Kitty Rock Belly Full doesn’t offer entrees, but that’s not necessary since burger and side dish will leave you super full and satisfied. If you have any leftovers, the crew will be happy to wrap it for you.
If you want to visit the restaurant by car, just a hint: there are no parking lots right in front of the Kitty Rock Belly Full but there is a supermarket and a gas station nearby where you can park your car.
Summary
Kitty Rock Belly Full is definitely worth it for both sides, vegan and non-vegan. If you come to visit Kiel, you should try it out, you won’t be disappointed. The ingredients are fresh and regional, the meat has a high biological quality. The prices are reasonable – we payed about 27 euros for the both of us – and the atmosphere is priceless.
A full recommendation for vegans, vegetarians and meateaters – you’ll love it!
